RUBEN MEDELLIN

Ruben Medellin is an artist based in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, whose artistic journey began at the age of seven in the barrios of Texas.
His first encounters with art took place on the streets, where blank walls and railroad boxcars became his earliest canvases. Armed with spray paint and accompanied by his two older brothers, Medellin discovered the freedom, energy, and visual language of graffiti at a remarkably young age. His brothers became his first collaborators: one served as lookout while the other helped him reach the highest surfaces. Together, they transformed the streets into their creative playground.
Although he received no formal artistic training during those early years, Medellin considers the streets his first school. Graffiti taught him to observe his surroundings, work spontaneously, develop a distinctive visual language, and understand art as a direct form of expression.
That early relationship with urban art continues to inform his artistic practice today, where experimentation, memory, movement, and personal experience converge.
